This is a prehistoric epic about a mammoth hunter who has to leave his homeland and travel to Egypt to get back his love from cruel slave traders. On his journey he has to fight against saber-tooth tigers and terror birds.

I liked this project very much because I could do two shots nearly on my own. At the beginning I had to create the wooden scaffolding in 3D. So I started laying out the pyramid with low poly boxes to get a feeling for the construction site. After that the high res models were built and a texture artist made some nice wooden textures.

Then I started to hand animate the golden tip sliding down the pyramid and landing in front of the entrance on the stone bridge. Dynamite (DNEGs inhouse rigid body system) was used for the simulation of the destruction of the scaffolding and the stone pieces. To add some more debris I used particles for splinters, sand, ... and Maya fluids for dust behind the golden pyramid. For the ropes of the cranes I used Maya hair.

Software used:

Maya, Dynamite (Inhouse rigid body system), REX (Inhouse Maya to Renderman interface), Shake
